Obituary of Janet Sorensen

Kenneth Sorensen was born on January 13, 1934, in Jersey City, New Jersey to Alfred and Thelma Sorensen. Kenneth passed on May 26, 2021. Janet Hazel Aston Sorensen was born on August 28, 1934, in Southhampton, England to Cecil and Mabel Aston. Janet passed on June 27, 2021. They met at Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey where they both received teaching degrees. Kenneth and Janet were longtime Boulder residents. They moved to Colorado from New Jersey after they were married in August 19, 1956. Both Kenneth and Janet were teachers, lovers of history, and lifelong learners. Kenneth taught in the Denver Public School system for many years and was much appreciated by his students, who often stayed in touch with him long after they had graduated from High School. Janet taught at the University of Colorado as a graduate student in the Eastern European History Department, and she always had a place at the holiday table for her far-from-home students. Both Kenneth and Janet loved to host others for dinners and large celebrations, and they brought many family members and friends from all over the world to hike in the mountains of Colorado. They also enjoyed traveling, tennis and academic debate. They are survived by three children, Kathleen Sorensen Worland, Calryn Sorensen Aston, and Mark Kenneth Sorensen, and two grandchildren, Soren Noel Roberts of Portland, Oregon and Owen Aston Roberts and his partner, Michelle Aspen of Westminster, Maryland. The family would like to offer special thanks on behalf of Kenneth and Janet to their loyal friends, Steve and Martha Moreland for their many kindnesses over the years. A private family memorial is to be scheduled, and burial will happen at Green Mountain Cemetery in Boulder, Colorado.
