She received a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Iowa State College in 1944, and later did graduate study in Music Education at the University of Colorado, Boulder.

Shirley began her career in Chicago, Illinois, where she worked, studied, and sang opera and jazz. She later began working as a music teacher in Algona, Iowa, where she met and married Carl Duane Morck. She moved with her family to Boulder, Colorado in 1961, and taught both elementary and junior high music for the Boulder Valley Public Schools until she retired in 1982.

Shirley also enjoyed her philanthropic and service work with many organizations over the years, including the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra, Saint Aidan’s Episcopal Church, PEO, Sigma Alpha Iota, and the University of Colorado Pharmacy School scholarship fund. After retirement, she and Carl enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, traveling and spending time with their many lifetime friends in the Boulder area and from Iowa.

Shirley and Carl were married for 66 years until his death on October 29, 2013. Shirley is survived by her son, William David Morck (Kathe), of Castle Valley, Utah; her daughter, Mary Serene Williams (John), of Louisville, Colorado; and her grandchildren, Niels Morck, Makenna Morck and Angelique Williams.
