Obituary of Edward F. Altman

Edward (Eddie) F. Altman Jr., of Boulder, Colorado passed away on Monday, March 28, 2022 at Sunrise Senior Care Center in Westminster, CO. He was 87. Born in Pueblo, CO on April 29, 1934 to the late Edward F. Altman Sr. and Amy (Locke) Altman, Eddie attended Carlyle Elementary School before graduating from Pueblo Central High School in 1952. He then studied at the University of Colorado (Boulder), where he was President of the Business School, a member of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity as the Social Chairman, and also in the NROTC. After graduating with a B.S. in Business in 1956, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy as an Officer on the USS Orca, which served as a floating U.S. Embassy in the Hong Kong harbor for five months during the Korean War. On occasion, Eddie would borrow the Captain's Barge for dates, and he sometimes deemed the ship's Hershey's Bars "spoiled" so he could distribute them to the local kids. Eddie ended up traveling the world and leaving the Navy two years later as Lieutenant Commander J.G. Eddie was then accepted in Merrill Lynch's two-year JET training program in NYC, then he moved to Denver, CO where he became a First Vice President. He then moved to Boulder, CO to open a new office for Merrill Lynch, and was invited into the Charles E. Merrill Circle, before becoming First Vice President at Prudential Securities and Wells Fargo Advisors. Eddie was a longtime supporter of the Denver Broncos, a proud season-ticketholder since their first year in 1960. He also supported the Buffs as a scholarship donor for the CU Athletic Department. Further, Eddie was a Charter Member of the CU Flatirons Club, and a donor and patron of the DCPA and Central City Opera. He was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Boulder. And although Eddie personally despised playing golf, he enjoyed long-term memberships at Boulder Country Club and the University Club in Denver; he just loved the camaraderie. In 1988, Eddie married Dina Brudenell Altman on a beautiful day in Boulder, his third marriage and her second, and the couple's families blended together beautifully. Get-togethers and reunions became momentous events, laughter and smiles infectious. Without exaggeration, Dina and Eddie traveled the world: Asia, Australia, Africa, Europe, and The Americas, top-to-bottom. They particularly enjoyed the splendor of African safaris and the joys of exploring unfamiliar territory, once renting a car and getting lost in the Italian countryside, simply flying by the seats of their pants. That Eddie also adored jazz should come as no surprise. Eddie absolutely cherished chatting with locals, getting to know them on a personal level, and learning all he could about their culture. He relished their stories. Eddie loved wine, and the world became his cellar-shopping locale. Eddie is survived by his loving wife, Dr. Dina Brudenell Altman, his 4 sons, Edward (Chip) F. Altman III and his wife Kelly, Jeff Altman, Gregg Altman and Michael Altman and his wife Elizabeth, Dina's daughters Lisa Brudenell and Ayn Altman and her husband Mark, as well as his sister Betty Veit Williams and her husband Taylor, granddaughters Erin Johnson, Silvarina and Josefina Santora, and his grandson, Edward F. Altman IV. Family and friends are invited to attend Eddie's memorial service at First Presbyterian Church (Grace Commons) in Boulder, CO on April 23, 2022 at 10:30am, reception and celebration to follow at Rembrandt's Yard.
