Graziana Lazzarino was an outstanding educator! She helped guide me to my BA in Italian at CU Boulder (1981). I also assisted her briefly on portions of “Per Tutti I Gusti.” Later, I became a high school history teacher for the next 30 years. Her inspiration as an enthusiastic, approachable, fun, and keenly knowledgeable educator was an inspiration to me always.

I remember the delightful, vibrant Graziana Lazzarino from a summer 1960 Italian class at CU. Her energy and enthusiasm were catching; under her tutelage a classroom session working on Italian grammar was lively and engrossing. How many teachers can make learning things like verb conjugations a happy experience? I am not surprised to read that her publications on Italian became great successes. In chats with her outside of class I discovered her great love for her home city Genoa and her vast command of the Italian cultural heritage. I had no idea then -- and perhaps she had no idea, either -- that she would no longer be living on the Italian Riviera but putting down roots in Boulder. It sounds as though she did and was able to thrive at the edge of our Rocky Mountains. I was just thinking of her and decided to check her whereabouts on google, being very sorry to encounter an obit but glad to read indications that this brilliant teacher had a fulfilling experience living in Colorado.

Graziana was one of our favorite professors - hers was the only class my wife and I were able to take together. We will never forget her "Buon Giorno" every morning at 8AM!
Thank you for sharing her with us and best wishes.

I just discovered this news - sad to hear of her passing as well. This was the only class I took at 8:00 am - tough for a freshman! But if anyone could wake me up it was Graziana with that boundless energy and awesome smile. What a dear person. Hands down my favorite class.

Caro Familia della Professoressa Lazzario,
I learned this morning that Prof. Lazzario had been a professor of Italian five miles from my house at CU Boulder and had written my Italian textbook “Prego.”
Many many many thanks to you Professoressa for giving me an “Introduction to Italian” which had a huge influence on my life. I lived in Rome for a year in my 20’s and worked at ABC News, I was a teacher’s assistant for beginning Italian when I returned to my university in the US. I’m currently planning a tour for animal communicators (my profession) to Assisi to study St Francis and animal communications, though it’s postponed during the pandemic. I appreciate your work Prof. Lazzario and how you and my dog-eared copy of Prego helped me learn Italian. Alison Stanton Picher
