Obituary of Ruth B. Burlingame

Ruth B. Burlingame, 100, died peacefully in her sleep on February 27, 2021. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ella (Loeffler) Birkhaeuser and sister of the late David Birkhaeuser. She attended Milwaukee-Downer College (now Lawrence College) and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1942. Ruth enlisted in the Navy during World War II. She attended Navy training in Northampton, MA and rose to the rank of Lieutenant serving in several capacities including the orientation and training of WAVES. After serving in the Navy, Ruth worked for the Boulder Valley School system for nearly 20 years where she taught English and Art. Ruth was a talented artist and specialized in stenciling and painting on wood. Ms. Burlingame is survived by her son Paul Burlingame of Boulder, and extended family Daniel and Margaret Birkhaeuser, of Walnut Creek, CA, Lucrecia, Sarah and David Birkhaeuser of Littleton, CO, and Kathleen, Keith, Linda, Elise and Josh Birkhaeuser, of Hingham, MA.
