We were very saddened to hear of Jay's passing. He and his loved ones are in our thoughts and prayers. Jay's presence on pickleball courts for us was what friendship through the sport is all about. I bought my first paddle from Jay, and our homes are in close proximity to each other; these things together with his personal warmth contributed to a sense of closeness. We will miss his friendly playfulness, his (mostly!) gentle demeanor, his excellent game. Rest in peace, dear Jay. Mia and Ranko Thomas-Ruzic

I only met Jay after to moving to Boulder some four years ago. We instantly bonded. Jay would say: "We did?" Anyway, we tolerated each other. He tried to make me Jewish. I tried to make him... In any case, we became invincible pickleball players when playing together (at least in our own minds). Truth be told, we did win sometimes. Jay was apparently very interested in improving my game. He was even so nice to count my "unforced errors" (As in, do you know how many unforced errors you made that game?) In one match I was playing against Jay with a newbie partner, she thought we were a little too involved with the constant jabs we were throwing at each other. I reassured her the we rarely came to fisticuffs. lol. Jay and I had had a lot of laughs together. It was difficult to have Jay slowly taken away from us. All I can say is I know Jay felt a lot of warmth from his family and that meant a great deal to him. I will miss him. We should have had a long future together. Have a laugh on me, Jay.

Dear Lisa and Family, It was with great sadness that I learned of Jay's passing. In recent years, we sometimes crossed paths on Lehigh Street when I was out walking and he was walking your dog. He was a true gentleman through and through, always smiling, always positive, just an absolute pleasure to be around. We are saddened to hear of his passing.
