Obituary of Jane A. Hutchinson

Jane Ayers McCormick Hutchinson, 84, passed away November 16th, 2018 at The Peaks at Old Laramie Trail in Lafayette, CO. She had been a resident there for eighteen months before succumbing to complications from Alzheimer’s Disease.

Born April 24th, 1934 in Fairmont, NC to parents Arva Bullock McCormick and Charles McCormick, Jane graduated from Fairmont High School in 1952 prior to heading off to earn her Bachelor of Science from East Carolina University (Greenville, NC) in 1956. She worked as a primary and elementary school teacher in Virginia Beach, VA and Roanoke, VA; then, on July 11th, 1964, Jane wed Edwin Berry Hutchinson. The couple made Roanoke home and had two children, Martha and Charles. Jane embraced the transition from teacher to mother, taking pride in her expertise in the kitchen and at the sewing machine and availing herself the passions of gardening and classical music. Jane remained active in her community, her involvements ranging from the P.T.A. to the tennis courts to Kanawha United Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir and served as treasurer for the women’s group. For fifteen years, Jane volunteered with Meals on Wheels in Virginia and West Virginia. In early-2017, Jane and Berry moved from Roanoke to Boulder County, as their daughter, Martha, lives here and could provide help with Jane’s affliction.

Jane is survived by her beloved husband, Berry, her daughter, Martha Hutchinson Buono and her grandson, Lucca Buono, all of Lafayette, CO, her son, Charles, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and her sisters, Billie Barnes, of Charlotte, NC and Ida Rose Lewis, of Fairmont, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Arva McCormick, her brother, Charles McCormick, and her sisters, Doris Harvey, Martha Blevins and Mary Elizabeth McCormick.

The family will hold a private celebration of Jane’s life and thanks you for your kind thoughts and heartfelt prayers for Jane. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org).
