Obituary of Jerome Torrence Maddock

Jerome Torrence Maddock, 77, of Louisville, CO, passed away at Foothills Hospital in Boulder, CO on September 22nd, 2017 after a long illness.

Known as Jerry to his family and many friends, he was born on February 7th, 1940 in Upper Darby, PA to parents Dr. Richard Cotton Maddock and Isobel Louise Maddock (nee Metzger). Jerry graduated from Upper Darby High School (PA) before continuing his education, earning his bachelor's degree in Biology from Muhlenberg College (Allentown, PA) and his master's degree in Information Sciences from Drexel University (Philadelphia, PA). He served in the United States Air Force Reserves from 1961 - 67. On October 2nd, 1965, Jerry married Karen Rhueama Maddock (nee Weygand) in Oneonta, NY. Pursuing his post-graduate area of study, Jerry worked in the field of information science for Merck in Lansdale, PA; Solar Energy Research Institute (now NREL) in Golden, CO from 1979 - 1988; and National Academy of Sciences in Georgetown, DC from 1988 - 2000.

A love for jazz permeated Jerry's life. From ages 15 to 28, he played string bass in local jazz combos. Later in life, he served as a jazz DJ for 13 years at KGNU in Boulder. In retirement, Jerry volunteered as a driver for 15 years at the National Western Stock Show. Jerry and Karen loved travel: In 2015, they celebrated their 50th anniversary by taking a three and a half month global cruise; they loved the trip so much that they embarked upon another cruise of the same duration in 2016, this time touring the Pacific Rim.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Dr. Richard C. Maddock, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Karen Rhueama Maddock of Louisville, CO and his brother Charles Maddock (Dorothy) of Wayne, PA.

A memorial service for Jerry will be held Saturday, October 21st, 2017 at 3:00 PM at St. John's Episcopal Church (1419 Pine Street, Boulder, CO 80302). The family thanks you for your kind thoughts and consideration.
