Obituary of David Gambee

David Gambee, 67, passed away from kidney failure on September 2, 2017 at his residence in Louisville, CO.

Born on December 16th, 1949 in Detroit, MI to parents John Wheeler Gambee and Gladys Mac Yoder Gambee, Dave married Alice Loeffler-Gambee in Farmington, MI in 1968. The two spent most of their lives in Michigan before moving to Colorado in 2014.

After marriage, Dave began his lifelong career in construction. Extremely handy and a jack-of-all-trades, he forged a path that led him to start multiple businesses related to construction.

Outside of work, Dave held three things close to his heart:  family, friends, and golf. Whether it was enjoying breakfast and eighteen holes with his buddies or spending time laughing with his grandchildren, Dave always had a smile on his face. Extremely kind and personable, he made friends everywhere he went. His son remarked that Dave “has a leaf in every family tree.”

Preceded in death by his parents, Dave is survived by his wife, Alice Gambee; his son, Anthony Gambee (Kelli); his daughter Melany (Gambee) Hallgren (Kraig); and his grandchildren, Noah and Sam Gambee and Owen and Ellis Hallgren (all from Louisville, CO). Dave is also survived by his brothers, Paul Gambee (Milford, MI), Jon Gambee (Hastings, MI), Ervin Gambee (Caledonia, MI), and Nathan Gambee (Shelbyville, MI); and his sister, Lynn (Gambee) McLochlin (Shelbyville, TN).

The family will host a memorial lunch on Saturday, September 16th at Bay Pointe Golf Course from 11:00AM – 2:00PM. Those close to Dave and the family are welcome. The address is 4001 Haggerty Road West, Bloomfield, MI 48323. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Dave’s honor, perhaps to Habitat for Humanity or another construction-focused charity as everyone who knew Dave understands that he didn’t only leave his fingerprints on the hearts of those he encountered, he left them on so many homes as well.
