Obituary of James Hyatt

James V. Hyatt, 62, of Longmont, died on Monday, July 1, 2013 at his residence. Jim was born on January 12, 1951 in Detroit, Michigan to Judson A. V. and Edna Rice (Vogt) Hyatt. He attended Huntington High School in Huntington, NY, Brown University in Providence, RI and Columbia Law School in New York, NY. Jim worked for insurance, banking and mutual fund companies including USLIFE Corporation, The Dreyfus Funds, Putnam Investments and Fidelity in New York and Boston. Jim married Francie Anhut on Martha's Vineyard in 1990. They moved to Colorado in 1995 and had their daughter Kelly Anne in 1996. They were divorced in 2003. Jim continued his career in Denver as a general counsel for a broker-dealer. In 2000, Jim began working for himself as a policy governance consultant, traveling throughout North America working with for profit, government and nonprofit boards and agencies. He served on nonprofit boards in Boulder County, including etown, The Dairy Center for the Arts and, more recently, Dental Aid. Jim loved riding his Harley in the mountains of Colorado. He practiced yoga and martial arts, played blues guitar and wrote for publications, including Board Leadership. He also enjoyed riding horses with his daughter, Kelly. Jim is survived by his daughter Kelly Anne Hyatt of Boulder, CO; brothers Andrew J. and Judith J. Hyatt of Austin, TX, Carl A. Hyatt and Hillary S. Webb of Portsmouth, NH and Leslie A. and Thirza H. Hyatt of Hartford, CT; 5 nieces and nephews and their children; and former wife Francie Anhut of Boulder, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents Judson and Edna Hyatt. A Celebration of Jim's Life will be held in August at a date and place to be determined.
