Obituary of Alice Power Pruett

Alice Power Pruett, 96, passed away in Boulder, Colorado on May 30, 2017 with family by her side.

Alice was born in Nampa, Idaho on March 28, 1921 to George and Etta Power, one of five children. She enjoyed summer trips with her family to their cabin near Grandjean, Idaho.

After graduating from high school she attended Boise Junior College where she was homecoming queen. She later graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in home economics.  

During World War II, Alice met Fred Pruett; they married on May 13, 1944. They moved to Boulder in 1945, put down roots and raised three sons. Alice worked with Fred in their printing business, Pruett Press. But her real love was volunteering at Boulder Community Hospital for many years. Her care and compassion were appreciated by those families and patients in need.

Alice enjoyed needlepoint, knitting, playing the organ and flower arranging.  She had a wonderful sense of fashion, a good sense of humor and a warm smile.

Alice is survived by her sons Jim and wife, Mary; Walt and wife, Anita; and Tom and wife, Betty; five grandchildren Alysa Dearborn and spouse Todd; Tena Friedman and spouse Matthew; Evan Pruett and spouse Chrissy; Larissa Pruett and Jamie Pruett; and four great-grandchildren, Zoe and Sierra Dearborn; and Riley and Ava Friedman. Her family will always remember the joy and love she shared with them.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Dortha Anderson; brothers Otto and Merle Power; her uncle, Buster Smith, who was raised as a brother; her husband Fred; and her son Charles.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 15, at The Academy, 970 Aurora Ave. in Boulder, CO 80302, the Rev. John Hess officiating.

In remembrance of Alice, her family would like everyone to try a taste of her favorite Idaho treat — huckleberry jam.
