Obituary of Nancy Elizabeth Israelson

Nancy Elizabeth Israelson, of Louisville, died May 19, 2017 at Balfour Senior Living. She was 97.

Nancy was born March 21, 1920 to Willis and Ruth Newman in Ft. Logan, Colorado. Her father was the Assistant Band Leader for the U.S. Army 6th Cavalry Band, and following his assignment in Colorado they moved back to Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia (a cavalry post just outside Chattanooga, Tennessee). She had an idyllic childhood riding Calvary horses, listening to band concerts at the parade ground bandshell, and enjoying the swimming pools on post. Nancy graduated from Chattanooga High School in 1938.

She met Nathaniel Israelson in Panama while her father was stationed there, and married him at Fort Monroe, Virginia in 1941. As a military wife, she spent the next 26 years traveling with her husband to his various duty stations in Germany, Alaska, Panama, and ten different postings in the United States. She raised a family of three boys—often by herself while her husband was overseas or away on temporary assignments.

Upon her husband’s exit from the military in 1966 they moved to San Diego, California, where they enjoyed over 40 years of retirement. They continued to travel, and loved spending time with family and friends all over the country.

Nancy moved to Colorado in 2006, initially residing at The Meridian Senior Living Center, and most recently at The Balfour.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Nathaniel (Herb) Israelson. She is survived by sons Gary (Kathleen) Israelson of Louisville, CO; David Israelson of Roanoke, TX; and Roger (Patricia) Israelson of Kaufman, TX; sister Lou Morgan of Ooltewah, TN; niece Patricia Cox of Chattanooga, TN; nephew John Morse of Ooltewah, TN; 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00pm on June 10, 2017 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 4215 Grinnell Ave., Boulder, CO 80305.
