Obituary of Arthur William Nelson

Arthur W. "Bill" Nelson of Louisville passed away Sunday, September 6, 2015. He was 92. Bill was born October 3, 1922 to Andrew R. and Esther K. (Sallstrom) Nelson of Glen Ridge, New Jersey. His family later moved to Nebraska where he graduated from Scottsbluff High School before attending Western Air College in Alhambra, CA. Bill joined the Army in 1943. He entered France at Omaha Beach on the 2nd day of the invasion and went on to fight in the Battle of the Bulge, among other battles in the European Theater. Bill married Irene E. (Renae) Baas in Lakewood, CO, on April 13, 1946. They were married 64 years until her death in 2010. For 10 years after serving in the Army, Bill was a dairy farmer near the Greeley and Boulder areas. Prior to joining the service, he had worked as a wholesale grocer and returned to that profession after farming. After working for 25 years at Creager Mercantile in Denver, he retired in 1985. Survivors: daughters; Susan (Tom), Teaney of Arvada and Tucson, Robin (Bob) Berlin, grandson, Marcus In Chan Berlin, all of Erie, brother, Andy (Virginia) Nelson of Denison, IA, and sister, Lorraine (Carl) Hendrickson of Greeley. A celebration of Bill's life will be held Saturday, September 12, 2015, at 2:00 P.M., at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 4215 Grinnell Ave, Boulder. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Army. A reception will be held at the church following the service.
