Obituary of Nadine Gibbs

Nadine Gibbs, 88, of Longmont, formerly Boulder, died on Sept. 20, 2012 in Boulder, CO. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sun., Oct. 7th at Columbine Unity Church, 8900 Arapahoe Rd., Boulder. A reception will follow the service at the church. Nadine was born in Blackburn, MO to Walter C. and Amelia E. Borchers, on Oct. 7, 1923. She attended school in Blackburn, Mo. and graduated from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO in 1945 with a Bachelor of Science. She taught school for 36 years in Missouri, Louisiana and Colorado. She and her family moved to Boulder in 1965 where she was on the faculty of Paddock Elementary. At Paddock's closing in 1982 she continued to teach at Aurora-7 Elementary. While teaching full time Nadine assisted her husband, Rev. Lloyd S. Gibbs, in establishing the Unity Church in Boulder. She was a long time member of Alpha Delta Kappa, an honorary sorority for women educators. Nadine served on the State Executive Board for 14 years in various offices culminating in 1982-84 as Colorado State President. During this time she also served at the International level of Alpha Delta Kappa. Following her retirement from teaching in 1985, Nadine was an active volunteer for numerous organizations in Boulder County. Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn (David) Hughes, Longmont, CO; three grandchildren Shandra Gibbs (Jess) Minor, Robert Gibbs and John Gibbs; 6 great-grandchildren and daughter-in-law, Belinda Gibbs. Nadine was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Lloyd "Sherm" Gibbs and son Richard Sherman Gibbs. Following her husband's death Mrs. Gibbs moved to Longmont and lived at Sterling House Assisted Living. Her family thanks all the staff at Sterling House for their conscientious care. They also thank Manor Care staff and Hospice of Broomfield/Boulder for their end of life support and consideration.
