Obituary of Richard Thomas Dando

Richard “Dick” Thomas Dando, 88 of Louisville, died Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at Exempla Colorado Lutheran Home in Arvada. A Graveside Service will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 S. Sheridan Blvd. Boulder, CO 80235, shelter “A” at 12:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 8, 2014. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Army. Dick was born on March 13, 1926 in Wilkes-Barre, PA to Richard Earl and Della Emily Dando. He graduated from Kingston High School in Kingston, PA and later earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Lafayette College in Easton, PA. He married Shirley Joy Evans in Kingston, PA in 1949 and they were married for 25 years. In 1975, he married Barbara Kirby in Baton Rouge, LA. After 33 years, she preceded him in death while they were in Baton Rouge in 2008. Shortly afterwards, Richard moved to Louisville, CO. Dick served during WWII in the United States Army in the European Theater. He worked at the Albany Felt Company, Albany, NY for 20 years and later worked for Walk Hadel Engineering, Baton Rouge, LA. Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara. Survivors: one son, Richard Robert (Mary) Dando of Louisville, CO & one daughter Betsy Jean (Richard) Spangler of Palm, PA; 22 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Dick’s love of life touched everyone he met. The family sends its heartfelt thanks to the staff at Colorado Lutheran Exempla Nursing Home for their kindness and loving care.
