Obituary of Susan Ieuter

Susan Ellen Sayre Ieuter, "Sue," died on Feb. 17, 2014 in Boulder of natural causes. She was 71. Sue was a kind, loving and extremely generous wife, mother and grandmother. She was a die-hard CU Buffs fan and she also loved classical music, gardening and skiing. Her children and grandchildren were her utmost delight and she was the glue that held her adoring family together. She has meaningfully touched the lives of countless family, friends and community members who will miss her dearly. Sue was a Colorado native, born Dec. 1, 1942, the daughter of Elvin Collins Sayre and Lola Jane Hatch Sayre. She graduated from Casey Junior High, Boulder High School and then went on to earn a BA and MA in education from the University of Colorado Boulder. Sue married Fritz Ieuter on June 18, 1966 in Boulder, the perfect place to spend their lives and raise their family of two daughters. She taught English and reading at Platt Junior High, Boulder High and other local schools, and she especially loved her role as staff mentor for the Boulder High school newspaper, The Owl. She later worked in the banking industry as a long-time employee, fraud specialist and ubiquitous, exuberant presence at Boulder Municipal Employees Federal Credit Union. Sue was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority, Colorado Alpha chapter; the CU Alumni Association; a former board member at St. Martin's Chamber Choir; and a supporter of The Colorado Music Festival and the Women Investing in the School of Education (WISE) at CU-Boulder. She is survived by her husband Fritz of Boulder; daughter Hilde Kraiss and her husband Kevin of Irvine, Calif.; daughter Toby Stauffer and her husband Jonathan of Steamboat Springs; brothers Terry Sayre of Oakland, Calif., and Rob Sayre of New Tripoli, Pa.; and her three grandchildren Katie, Allie and Connor Kraiss of Irvine, Calif. In honor of Sue, please consider a contribution to Colorado Music Festival & Center for Musical Arts, 200 E. Baseline Rd. Lafayette, CO 80026 (comusic.org); or St. Martin's Chamber Choir, 2015 Glenarm Pl. Denver, CO 80205 (303-298-1970).
